Encapsulation FAQS

PLACENTOPHAGY HAS DATED BACK THOUSANDS OF YEARS BECAUSE IT NURTURES THE UNBORN CHILD. PLACENTA ENCAPSULATION IS NOT LIMITED TO JUST THE UNITED STATES IT IS ALSO PERFORMED IN MANY OTHER COUNTRIES SUCH AS EUROPE AND FRANCE. PLACENTA ENCAPSULATION HAS BECOME MORE POPULAR TODAY, AND MORE WOMEN ARE CHOOSING ENCAPSULATION DUE TO THE REPORTED BENEFITS.

WHAT ARE THE REPORTED BENEFITS OF PLACENTA ENCAPSULATION?

The most commonly reported benefits are:

Increase in overall mood and wellbeing

Decrease in bleeding

Increase in healing time

Increased milk supply

Increased energy

“MY BABY HAS PASSED MECONIUM, WILL I STILL BE ABLE TO ENCAPSULATE?”

Absolutely! Before the process beings, it will be rinsed off and proper sanitation protocol will be followed to ensure it is safe to consume!

ARE THERE ANY CONDITIONS THAT WILL AFFECT MY PLACENTA FROM BEING ENCAPSULATED?

It is advised against encapsulation if Hepatitis or HIV is present. You may read more on this topic from the Association of Placenta Preparation Arts, I will link the source below.

WHAT DOES THE PLACENTA CONTAIN?

Your placenta is an amazing thing and contains a variety of hormones, opioids, nutrients, and minerals. A study was performed on 28 placentas which found 15 different hormones present! The hormones present were 11-deoxycortisol, 17-hydroxyprogesterone, 7- ketodehydroepiandrosterone, aldosterone, allopregnanolone, androstenedione, corticosterone, cortisol, cortisone, dehydroepiandrosterone, estradiol, estriol, estrone, progesterone, and testosterone, and melatonin was found in 9 of the samples. A range of 441 to 1185 ppm of Iron was also found in another study that sampled 28 placentas. That comes out to 24% of the recommended daily amount of iron intake. There were small amounts of heavy metals found, however, these small amounts will not cause any harm.

WILL CONSUMING MY PLACENTA HELP WITH LACTATION?

Increased lactation has been one of the most commonly reported benefits when consuming the placenta postpartum. Researchers completed a study by having mothers consume their placenta by mouth and found that 181 (86.2%) mothers reported positive results. The study also noted that with those positive results, 117 (55.7%) reported good results and 64 (30.5%) reported very good results.

Encapsulation Concerns

“I AM VEGAN.”
No worries!! No one is harmed during the process of encapsulation, we even have options to get vegan capsules!

“WOULD IT BE CONSIDERED CANNIBALISM?”
No, placentophagy is NOT considered cannibalism. Cannibalism is best defined as “the practice of eating the flesh of one's own species.” Cannibalism is typical of animals during rivalry or fatal attraction. Whereas, placentophagy is the act of consuming ones own placenta during the postpartum period.

“IT'S NOT APPROVED BY THE FDA.”
Correct, placenta encapsulation is not approved by the FDA, however, it is NOT intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Therefore, the FDA does not regulate placenta encapsulation.

HOW DO YOU MAKE SURE I GET MY OWN PLACENTA BACK?
I ensure each placenta in my possession is labeled properly and kept separate. Please also tell your care provider know ahead of time your plans to encapsulate and discuss with them using the directions I provide you how to properly package the placenta for storage until I arrive for pick up. This will prevent the placenta from being disposed of and instead put in the proper bag.

"WHY CAN'T I JUST DO IT MYSELF?"
While you certainly can do it yourself, the equipment invested in the process is costly and you are not trained on the proper handling and preparing protocol to ensure that your placenta is, in fact, safe for consumption by making sure it is steamed and/or dehydrated at the proper temperatures for the proper times.
